Improving the Health of Communities Locally and Nationally

Jun. 30, 2016

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association recently released its "Investing in America's Health" report as an annual measurement of community-driven investments in health. These programs, collaborations and outreach efforts were made by the 36 independent and locally operated Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies.

The report details and measures the investments and development of innovative health initiatives. Collectively, BCBS companies donated nearly $350 million to community health initiatives in 2015. BCBS employees across the country also provided more than $10 million dollars in personal donations dedicated to improving the health of all Americans.

Improving health care is a key opportunity and Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans across the country continue to invest in the health and well-being of our communities because it benefits us all. Improving health through tackling challenges such as chronic disease or access to primary care helps people get healthier, and over the long term will help to reduce costs for everyone. Knowing that if all of us work together, we can help meet our health care challenges head on and make a large-scale, national impact. Our members trust us to maintain our longstanding role of stewardship in improving community health. Learn more about what Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans are accomplishing.

Locally, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois continues to make a strong and lasting impact on millions of people who live and work in the communities we serve. Volunteers devoted their time in record numbers in 2015, supporting new play spaces, tutoring and mentoring high school students, and helping connect people with important social services. Community investments helped kids with asthma breathe easier, while reducing the cost of care. From diversity and inclusion to environmental sustainability to ethics and compliance, learn more about how we give back by reading our 2015 Social Responsibility Report.
