BCBSIL Response to Flooding In Illinois

Jul. 25, 2017

Some Illinois counties — Cook, Kane, Lake, and McHenry — have been declared disaster areas due to severe flooding. Having insurance is important during this stressful time. The Illinois Department of Insurance (IDOI) issued a notice on July 17, 2017, asking insurance companies to give members living in those 4 counties extra time to pay their monthly premiums.

This means if live in Cook, Kane, Lake or McHenry counties and receive a non-payment cancellation notice between July 12, 2017, and Sept. 30, 2017, it will be withdrawn. Your insurance won’t be cancelled. No new cancellation notices will be sent until after Sept. 30, 2017.

Keep in mind, the terms of your coverage still apply. If you're behind on your payments as of July 12, your claims may not be paid. You may not be able to use your benefits until you are up to date. See your plan or call Customer Service for details.

  • Explain your benefits
  • Find a doctor, hospital or dialysis center
  • Refill prescription medications
  • Coordinate or transition your care
